A large gate that serves as a carport and a sheltered entrance rests on a retaining wall / storage unit that was necessary in view of the very steep terrain conditions. The lower supporting walls of the bearing were achieved by moving large round stones recovered during the construction of the road above
On the ground floor, the sequence from the entrance to the main hall permits the discovery through a large continuous open floor without any apparent structure
The abundance of openings from east to west, the result of a perfect combination of solar movement, orientation and sought after viewpoints, provides permanent natural light and optimal energy efficiency. The lower level houses four bedrooms and two full bathrooms arranged in a linear fashion according to a clear axis perpendicular to the main structure above enabling each room to have a view. The simplicity of the materials used, the natural wood patterns for the floor and ceiling accentuate the dramatic perspective of the main corridor
The high contrast in the choice of cladding materials increases the strength of the connection between the volumes. Flanked by a red British Columbia cedar on the upper volume and a wood-dyed barn on the lower one, the house looks like it was built in the mountains and is in harmony with the surrounding trees
