Residential complex in the heart of the Dolomites. Wood and copper for the building that blends in with the environment

PLASMAstudio designs a residential complex that, thanks to the use of materials and the link with the environmental conformation, it maintains a local character until it completely merges with the evocative context of the Sesto Dolomites

The Dolomitenblick, is the result of the project of PLASMAstudio and was developed from the need to create six independent housing units connected by a common area intended for internal circulation

The entire volume is divided into two areas through a "split" that outlines the main entrance and the division of the apartments. Two bands open from both edges of the cut to shape the balustrades of large covered terraces, the incision thus becomes a feature of the project itself. On each floor, the bands, as well as the entire façade, gradually tilt following the steep slope of the hill

In order to fully enjoy the enchanting view of the Dolomites, each apartment has been fitted with large full-height windows which, thanks to their southern exposure, also provide maximum energy output. Summer overheating is minimized by the use of external sunshade elements and the large overhang of the terraces with private garden

The division into two areas and the design of the balustrades is another important feature in ensuring guests of each apartment have the highest level of privacy by preventing passers-by from seeing from the outside and other guests from inside. Along the main circulation, the same color definition of the façade and the use of local larch is used, which is also used inside the houses

Another protagonist material is pre-oxidised copper: it surrounds the entire volume and like larch, it is a material particularly subject to the natural color change generated by the influence of the sun, rain and snow. The continuity with the pre-existing context is thus linked through the use of dark color typical of the traditional larch facades burnt by the sun

The important handicraft work manifests itself at an extreme level in the creation of the balustrades which are conceived starting from the external topography and are linked to the volume of the building to then detach themselves from it forming hyperbolic and parabolic curved geometries. What was originally a constraint of local regulations, which imposes the use of a pitched roof for this specific project lot, is explored by investigating its latent potential: the conventional sloping roof model is therefore slightly deformed, thus avoiding the simple repetition and fully integrating with the idea of the project

The PLASMAstudio project generates a volume that starts from the natural environmental conformation, contrasting the local architectural context with its eclectic character but without any stylistic coherence: through the use of materials, it maintains an extremely local, almost vernacular character, until it completely blends with the surrounding environmental context
