The stalls of Mount Royal Park. Wooden Interiors: an impressive theatre of light and shadow

The uniqueness of every single stall stems from their integration into the park in the most discreet and harmonious way possible. Not only respecting the environmental integrity of the mountain itself, but harmonizing with the poetry of the landscape, and all this with an eye on longevity

The three new stalls assume the shape of a village. This is an important factor in design, as a village embodies the idea that encourages a sense of interaction and community. The positioning of the stalls is random, representing a connection between the stalls, the main pavilion and the waterfall at Beaver Lake. Their random positioning stimulates different approaches

The concept of this installation is inspired by two main components. The interplay of lights and the constant shifting of the wind. This was purely intentional and necessary to create a constant sense of movement. A movement that follows the wind's path and moves in the light, appearing random and structured at the same time. In essence, the three stalls are propelled by the wind at three different speeds, expressing sensitivity to the surroundings and the elements

Each stall stands at a different angle, as if pushed by the wind. The first stall is tilted by 10 degrees, designed for classy trips both during the summer and winter. With enough space to accommodate up to 30 people, there are many possibilities for activities. The second stall, inclined at 20 degrees, houses tools and equipment for the services of the park, as well as a first aid center. The third, with its 30 degree slope, is the ticket office, in addition to the storage area for recreational equipment

All in all, the shape and transparency of the buildings create an impression of lightness. Three barracks have fallen into the park. Visible and depending upon where you stand, invisible in the woods. Their transparency encourages the interaction of light and shadow. At first glance, the interior is the essence of simplicity, hollowed out and open at both ends. The wooden interior is composed of boards with tabs and colored grooves in each of the stalls. Then, light flows through each building and creates a connection between the stalls and the main pavilion

The choice of materials is an integral part of all buildings. Each choice stems from a great deal of reflection that contributes significantly to the architectural and poetic aspects of the buildings. Each roof is covered with zinc plates and all plates are cut and positioned to highlight the different corners of the stalls. In the light, the tiles change colour. In fact, every hour of the day, the exterior changes and moves according to the natural light of the landscape, improving the transparent effect
