Single family residence in South Tyrol. Large south-facing terraces illuminate the interior

In Sesto, a ski resort in South Tyrol, the Plasma Studio team built a single-family home on a particularly steep terrain where both the environment and the surrounding buildings limit the possibility of volume development

The Plasma Studio team has created a single-family home on a particularly steep terrain in Sesto, a renowned tourist resort in South Tyrol, with the shape representing a brilliant solution to the development and volume limitations caused by the surrounding environment and buildings

The building is partly underground with two covered parking spaces on the front, from where a small staircase leads to the first floor, the living areas and the bedrooms on the second floor. The shape of the building is determined by its main constraints: its steep location and the presence of other buildings that greatly limit the scope for development

The limited space available has led to a preference for an open layout of the first floor: kitchen, dining room and living room are located around the central core of circulation. The staircase, storage room, furnace and service area are separated and connected at the same time. The single rooms on the second floor are connected to each other by short and efficient passages

To enlarge the narrow and limited interior, the façade that overlooks the Dolomites has been opened as much as possible, given the prominent position of the site. On both floors, large balconies and terraces double the available area and offer a pleasant space for children to play and for adults to rest

To keep you away from the prying eyes of passers-by, a layer of wooden strips wraps around the larger openings facing the south. The openings provide different degrees of refuge and intimacy, depending on their dimensions

The limits presented by the steepness of the site and the lack of space are transformed into opportunities by Plasma Studio's project that doubles the space through the openings of large terraces and the accurate optimization of the internal surfaces
