House in Slovakia. Traditional forms and innovative technology

Architect Jaro Krobot reconstructs a wooden house in Lučatín, a small village in Slovakia that replaces an existing brick barn. The construction respects the limits and accesses imposed on the constructed volumes

Architect Jaro Krobot makes the difficult decision to demolish an old wooden barn in Lučatín, central Slovakia. The designer creates a new view of the natural environment without interrupting the flow of the road, constructing a new wooden building instead of the existing barn

The layout of the rooms of the house is a variant of the traditional local building. The spaces are arranged longitudinally, the entrance to the living room, the kitchen in the middle and finally the bedroom. All the rooms are connected by a corridor. The house has been built by dividing it into functional spaces (from the entrance to the storage areas). All the technical equipment is located in a central core to minimize the space allocated to the systems

Given the nature of the site, the high environmental impact has been widely considered by the designer. In addition to the wooden structure, the materials of the old building will be reused. This was only partially achieved, the old barn was dismantled and the material reused in other buildings in the area. The wood in the barn was not in good condition, so it was not possible to reuse it for the cladding as planned

The construction of the house was carried out entirely with wood, in this case, the designer used the Swiss system that was developed in collaboration with the Zurich-based company. The building elements used are bricks made of solid fir wood, which can be filled with different types of insulators
