The building is a single volume, L-shaped, straddling two different heights of land of about 3 meters. To the south is the courtyard for recreation and to the north is a green space for technical purposes
New configuration for a kindergarten in France. Orientation and light studio
The Les Alliés de Chavannes kindergarten located near a motorway junction is extended by three volumes, which, in the openings, orientation and inclination of the roof, reflect the context and the existing building
The project aimed to connect the various volumes and to design a longitudinal circulation, so as to make the extensions look like separate "pavilions". At this point, the existing building becomes the backbone of the new configuration of the building, with numerous new openings on the outside and on the natural site
The building preserves its existing qualities and opens up to new ones, with a greater connection with the outside world. In order to preserve the recreational courtyard to the south and at the same time ensure natural lighting of the interior spaces throughout the day, two of the three extensions are installed to the north
The inclination of the roof of the two pavilions provides a significant amount of light, despite its position. To ensure continuity with the existing buildings, the extensions are supported by pilotis and are fitted between the trees, with a view of the urban area and the surrounding vegetation
The third extension has the appearance of a large shelter, and is located in a transition point between public space and the court. The roof tilts to connect with the existing building
All the windows and openings of the three pavilions are designed according to the views and orientation and are able to ensure a high level of internal comfort thanks to natural ventilation and contact with nature
The three volumes are covered in metal, corrugated sheet metal made of stainless steel, thus strongly distinguishing themselves from the existing building
