Warner Music in Beijing. A flexible and young "courtyard" to host music-related activities

Bean Buro was commissioned to design an innovative workplace for Warner Music in Beijing, China that would support their unique needs. This new environment is made up of holistic spatial compositions that convey the story of an intercultural business that focuses on the well-being and strong identity of employees to increase their commitment

Inspired by the rich history of traditional Chinese court houses, "Siheyuan", the approach to this project was to create an oasis of tranquility in the heart of Beijing's growing business district. The open-plan complex was designed as a courtyard, enclosed by the supporting services with the building's glass façade flooding the interior with natural light and opening up views of the city

This environment is visually open, but it is actually physically divided into various zones for socializing, collaborating and also for holding formal meetings. The flexibility of this space makes it possible for occasions such as corporate events, impromptu performances by artists and DJ sets to take place. Upon entering the office, the visitors are welcomed by a stage that stands out on a white wall illuminated by the surrounding windows

An 'artists' room' has also been designed in which they can prepare themselves for a potential performance. The outside of this room is covered in glossy green with the company logo and forms a recognizable architectural volume in the entrance lounge area. There is also another 'music room' for artists who want to compose music in a comfortable acoustic environment; it is padded with square cork panels with a zig-zag pattern

This project incorporates a palette of woven materials inspired by the textures of traditional Chinese instruments such as wood, copper, and herringbone and wood. The challenge in this project was to maintain a cohesive use of materials and design elements. The element that combines these energetic contrasts of colours and materials is the main slatted wooden wall
