Yoga Center in Chile. Wood & Light for the search of the soul

Architects Germán Rodriguez and Sergio Hidalgo have constructed a wooden structure in Ñuñoa, Santiago, Chile, that is reminiscent of a temple and houses a meditation centre where yoga is practiced. The light is used consciously in the architectural design

The architects of Studio DX Arquitectos design this building based on the architecture of the temple. Where the building is characterized by closed silent spaces, glittering, which are poorly lit and appeal to the search for the soul

The designers Germán Rodriguez and Sergio Hidalgo are inspired by simple shapes, arrangements and structures, echo, air, wind, sunlight, the breathing forms of the body, the spaces that are filled during the practice of the discipline, essential for the interior outlook

The structure is designed in relation to the light, letting it in and illuminating the main room where the practical discipline is performed. The light illuminates without dazzling. The light is designed as a line that divides the house from the school, it illuminates the main living room from below and aims to give the feeling that the room is hanging from this line of light

The light is a line that depicts the passing of time, the hours of the day, the seasons of the year. Where the light enters is also where the air enters and leaves, where breathing takes place. The light reminds us of the passing of time. It impinges objects as time passes. It is through the light that one is aware of the endless passing of time, of its linearity and of its cyclical nature. Not only the light: the illuminated material is also needed. That is why the importance of shadow also comes into play
