FRANTZEN and Architects create Patch 22 in Amsterdam, the tallest wooden condominium in the Netherlands, winner of a call for tenders that selected the proposals on the basis of the sustainability characteristics of the projects

Patch22 is the tallest wooden condominium in the Netherlands designed by Dutch studio FRANTZEN and ARCHITECTS, which won first place with this project in an innovative call for tenders that awarded the proposals according to their level of sustainability

Not only is the cladding made of wood, the entire structure is 30 meters high, as well as the beams and walls that remain visible inside the apartments. The fire protection requirements were met by increasing all the dimensions of the wood. It was the first apartment building in the Netherlands to use this approach and thus allow experimentation with the countless qualities of wood in a skyscraper

Patch 22 apartments are delivered completely empty at the time of sale, with a flexible arrangement thanks to the use of hollow floors where the equipment can be adjusted as desired by easily removing the top layer of the floors. In this way, you can design and create your own layouts and even adapt them over the years

By negotiating a new type of land lease with the city of Amsterdam, it is also possible to change the function of the building entirely from residential to office buildings as often as needed. The considerable ceiling height of 3.5 m net also anticipates possible future uses

The building obtains its energy from a large number of solar panels on the roof and is heated by a neutral C02 heating system that uses "Pellets" (compressed wood) as fuel. The abundant use of wood helps to store as much CO2 as possible in the building structure

The name Patch22 refers to Catch22, but with a positive approach to the circular nature of materials and energy used
