The unit of the brick and its dimensions determine the size of the spaces and modules of the metal structures. This grid modulates the project in a flexible way according to the desired needs and limits. The spaces in the house are open to the outside. On the façade, perpendicular walls and flowering boxes cross the limits
Villa in the hills of Tibidabo. Combination of traditional building methods and passive energy solutions
In an environment with an incomparable view of the whole of Barcelona, stands "SV Villa", a project by the Jofre Roca Arquitectes Studio. The house enjoys the advantages of the city with the privileges of the countryside, where traditional production methods combined with energy-passive solutions have been used.
Passive energy solutions are used. The spaces are oriented and the "cantilever" on the south façade provides shade that regulates the entry of sunlight in summer and allows direct heat gain in winter. A continuous skylight on the upper floor supports the natural ventilation system. It also provides natural lighting throughout the entire floor. This skylight is oriented so that it does not receive direct solar radiation
The handmade bricks in a local factory were produced by master craftsmen and designed by Jofre Roca Arquitectes. Their dimensions determined the size of the spaces. A special sludge mixture provided the corresponding flexibility and hardness. Following an artisan process, they were heated by burning the crushed olives for ten days and depending on their exposure to the flames each unit acquired a more or less reddish hue, resulting in the full desired texture
The oak beams were selected and sawn by a local sawmill and left to dry in the sun for three months to stabilize their movements. These elements are part of the structural and aesthetic system, with interesting textures and finishes in both the indoor and outdoor spaces
