Cottage in Canada. Combining wood between triangular shape and spatial quality

Captivating and ingenious, the project located in St.Adolfe d'Howard, Canada, eloquently illustrates the fruitful contribution made by the great collusion between Architect Jean Verville and his clients

The renovation of this lodge reflects the method of the Architect who, by relating to the essence of his clients' daily life, urges them to control their daily habits and their real family needs in order to overcome their limits

Jean Verville continues his reflections on compact domestic spaces by transgressing standardization. Challenging the initial hypothesis of lack of space, the Architect opted instead for the reduction of floor surfaces in favour of spatial quality. At the same time compressed and fragmented, stratified and unobstructed, the living area decreases by intensively exploiting the densification of space

Of a graphic nature, the concept of this project results in a trigonometric poem that juggles the emblematic triangular figure which expresses geometric shapes to offer an internal impulse to the project, while maintaining an allegedly minimalist signature. The strength that emerges from the project imposes triumphant images over reality to push us into an infinite territory, that of imagination

The cottage, built in the 60s on the site of the Laurentians, has the characteristic shape of a triangular construction

Once the interior has been demolished and the structure completely emptied from the inside, the Architect takes advantage of the triangular structural form that resists the monotony of a predetermined spatial organization to develop a new layout that provides a relaxing feeling for this family retreat away from the urban frenzy.

The living space open to nature borders a compact kitchen area that enjoys the stair-free space and the double height of the structure. Playful and sparkling, the girls' lair provides a huge platform under the beds, always ready to welcome friends, with a corner designed for reading inserted in a triangular alcove. This room, entirely clad in wood, reveals a fascinating place entirely dedicated to children's games away from the living spaces on the ground floor

By ingeniously designing the stairs, Verville has managed to increase the perception of visual depth by taking advantage of the limits and openings to create a wonderfully dense space. A window placed on the floor of the master bedroom enhances the brightness of the kitchen area below, while offering a view of the lake from the bed, optimizing the view of the surrounding nature

By changing his mathematical thinking on the outside, the Architect redesigns a volumetric graph completely blended in black. The deductions applied to the four elevations perforate new openings that sometimes point at the lake, sometimes at the sky, to better interact with the landscape
